Prisoners' Media Office – 9 October 2024
As the use of administrative detention and arrest campaigns escalate, the number of Palestinian women held under administrative detention in Israeli prisons has risen to 24, following the administrative detention of three women from Hebron.
The three detainees are students Raghad Amr, Yamam Harinat, and engineer Raghad Mubarak, who were issued four-month administrative detention orders. They have been detained since September 1, 2024.
The total number of female prisoners in Israeli custody is approximately 95, according to available data from rights organizations. Most are held in Damon Prison, including three women from Gaza, one of whom is detained with her daughter. However, this figure excludes female detainees from Gaza held in Israeli military camps, as no detailed information is available due to the ongoing practice of enforced disappearances targeting many detainees from Gaza since the beginning of the ongoing war of extermination.
Among the detainees are six journalists, two lawyers, university students, academics, teachers, mothers of prisoners, wives of prisoners, sisters of martyrs and wounded individuals, former prisoners, and injured detainees. The list also includes a pregnant detainee, Jihad Ghawanmeh.
Recently, the Israeli prison administration isolated human rights activist Khalida Jarrar, who is also held under administrative detention, in harsh and severe conditions in solitary confinement at Neve Tirtza Prison.
Since October 7, Israeli authorities have issued over 8,872 administrative detention orders, affecting all categories, including women, children, and the elderly. A significant number of these orders targeted former prisoners who had previously spent years in administrative detention.
It is worth noting that over 400 women have been arrested since the beginning of the ongoing war. This figure includes women arrested in the West Bank and Jerusalem, as well as those from the territories occupied in 1948. However, there is no clear estimate for the number of women detained from Gaza.
