In the Wake of Its Crimes Against Palestinian Journalists, the Occupation State Leads the Global Scene of Repression
Quds News – 2/1/2024
"Reporters Without Borders" has published a new report on the toll of journalist casualties worldwide in 2024, highlighting a troubling increase in attacks on journalists over the past year.
The report confirmed that the occupation state has risen to the forefront in targeting and detaining journalists since the beginning of the genocide war on Gaza in October 2023. It is now ranked as the "third largest prison for journalists globally." The organization also reported that 41 Palestinian journalists are currently detained in occupation prisons.
According to the report, Palestine is the most dangerous place in the world for journalists, with the number of journalist casualties in Palestine surpassing that of any other country over the past five years.
Since the start of the genocide war on Gaza, the occupation army has intensified its arrests and executions of journalists in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip. In the West Bank, there has been a widespread wave of arrests targeting journalists, many of whom have been placed under administrative detention. Meanwhile, Gaza has witnessed horrific crimes against journalists.
The most recent of these crimes occurred last week, when occupation aircraft bombed the live broadcast vehicle of the Palestine Today channel. The bombing led to the martyrdom of five journalists: Fadi Hassouna, Ibrahim Sheikh Ali, Mohammad Al-Lad'aa, Faisal Abu Al-Qumsan, and Ayman Al-Jadi.
