Freed Palestinian Political Prisoner Martyred
18/3/2025
Ramallah, Palestine - Freed Palestinian political prisoner, Kathem al-Zawahreh, has been martyred at the al-Hussein Hospital in Bethlehem city in the southern occupied West Bank.
Zawahreh, who has been in a coma for months during his detention, was released during the first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner-exchange deal between the Israeli occupation and the Hamas resistance movement. He was released three weeks ago and transferred immediately to hospital.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society and the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs stated that Zawahreh was seriously injured by Israeli occupation forces a year ago, along with his brother, martyr Mohammad Zawahreh after they carried out an armed resistance operation.
The PPS and the Commission explained that occupation forces continued to detain him at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem until his release and transfer to Al-Hussein Hospital. He remained in a coma throughout his detention at Hadassah Hospital.
All Palestinian prisoners’ institutions affirm that the Israeli occupation holds full responsibility for the martyrdom of Zawahreh, the killing of dozens of Palestinians in its custody since the genocide, and the ongoing threat to the lives of thousands who remain in Israeli prisons and military camps amid this war of extermination and genocide.
