The official spokesperson for the Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, Hassan Abdul-Rabuh, stated today, Monday, that the Israeli occupation's re-arrest of prisoners after their release is part of a deliberate Israeli policy aimed at robbing these prisoners and their families of their joy upon regaining their freedom.
Abdul-Rabuh added, in a statement to the Middle East News Agency, "The Israeli occupation authorities have often resorted to re-arresting prisoners minutes or hours after their release, in order to spoil their happiness. At other times, they are re-arrested after a few days, either for questioning or for administrative detention, as was the case with the prisoner Barghouti, as part of the occupation's attempts to restrict the freedom of released prisoners and pursue them afterward through administrative detention."
He continued, "Prisoners are subjected to a systematic policy of tightening the noose around them, with the deliberate medical neglect policy at the forefront. This policy led to the martyrdom of the prisoner Khader Adnan a few days ago after he had been on a hunger strike for 87 days in protest of his arbitrary detention. This policy has also resulted in the martyrdom of 75 individuals due to medical neglect out of a total of 273 martyrs who died in Israeli prisons through various means and methods."
Abdul-Rabuh further stated, "This morning, several sections in the (Rimon) prison were stormed, with the prison administration and suppression units subjecting the prisoners to abuse. Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Ahmad Sa'adat and others were transferred to isolation cells for interrogation. This move signals further escalation inside the prisons at the hands of the suppression units, which intentionally make life in prison difficult for the prisoners. The situation has become highly tense in many sections of the Rimon prison."
He mentioned, "The Israeli occupation still holds more than 350 bodies of martyrs who died at different stages, including approximately 250 martyrs in what are known as the 'numbered cemeteries,' while others are held in refrigerated morgues. Among these are 13 martyrs who died in captivity, with the latest being Sheikh Khader Adnan. Unfortunately, the efforts made on the legal, advocacy, diplomatic, and political levels have not yielded results due to the Israeli authorities' refusal to release him and their decision to keep his body detained along with the rest of the bodies. This action is outside the context of international ethical standards and blatantly violates international norms and Geneva Conventions."
The official spokesperson for the Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority stressed that "it is time for the international community and all organizations and institutions concerned with human rights and the rights of prisoners and detainees to break their silence and act to condemn the Israeli occupation's policy targeting prisoners and criminalizing Palestinian resistance. They should also demand the immediate cessation of the medical neglect policy and administrative detention, which affects over a thousand Palestinian citizens detained without trial."
Israeli forces re-arrested the released prisoner, Mohammad Ahmed Barghouti, after 10 days of his release, following his 14-year imprisonment in Israeli prisons.
