On World Children's Day
We present general and statistical information about the arrests of children:
Since 2015, the closest point marking the escalation of child arrests, more than 10,000 cases of arrest have been recorded.
Since the start of the ongoing war of extermination, the occupation has arrested no fewer than 770 children from the West Bank. No data is available regarding the number of children arrested from Gaza.
Among the detained children, one girl from Jerusalem is currently imprisoned.
100 children are held under administrative detention, including a 14-year-old child—a precedent according to available institutional data.
Since the beginning of the war, the occupation has denied all families of detained children the right to visit them, as is the case for thousands of prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons and detention camps.
Children today face, alongside torture, starvation, and medical crimes, the nightmare of scabies outbreaks, particularly in the children’s section of Megiddo Prison.
Many children, after their release, suffer from severe psychological conditions and require rehabilitation, care, and support. Their families also face significant challenges due to the continuous persecution by the occupation, which often includes multiple summonses and re-arrests of these children.
It is worth noting that during the exchange deals of November 2023, 169 children were released, but at least nine of them were re-arrested by the occupation. Furthermore, among those children who were released but later surpassed the age of childhood, some were martyred by the occupation’s bullets.
