Ramallah, Palestine – At least 380 Palestinians have been subject to arrest and detention by Israeli occupation soldiers across the northern West Bank governorates of Jenin, Tulkarem and Tubas, amid Israel’s ongoing massive assault on those areas, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement today.
In Jenin, at least 150 Palestinians were subject to arrest and detention in Jenin and its refugee camp (the highest) during the past 24 days of the occupation’s aggression. In the Tulkarem governorate - as of the 18th day of the occupation’s attack - the number of arrests has reached at least 125. In Tubas, which underwent a 17-day assault, at least 100 arrests have been recorded.
These figures include those who were arrested and remain in the occupation’s custody, as well as those who were later released. It does not include the dozens of Palestinians who are subject to hours-long field interrogations on a near-nightly basis, which are accompanied by severe beatings, destructive military raids on homes, and systematic abuse and humiliation of the detainees and their families. These raids constitute organized state-terror and have severe, lasting effects on Palestinian families.
The arrests targeted all segments of Palestinian society, including children, women, young people, the wounded, and the elderly. These mass arrest campaigns are an extension of the occupation’s decades-long systematic policies of persecuting the Palestinian population. Such policies have escalated in an unprecedented manner following the genocide and the rise of atrocities committed against Palestinian detainees.
